The Importance of Relationship Building for Seniors at CaraVita Village

Meeting new people can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! Making new friends and building new relationships can lead you down the road of new experiences and new adventures.

CaraVita Village is sharing the importance of relationship-building within senior communities, because, when we build bridges as a community and come together, you’ll find that life is fuller!

Happy, Healthy Living

While you may hear that a healthy diet and exercise are the most important aspects of being healthy, there’s something just as important that is often overlooked. Relationships and social interactions are a basic human need. Getting to know others, even in a small capacity, is an integral part of the framework of healthy, happy living.

The National Institute on Aging has found a positive link between social interactions and personal health, which showed a consistent association of social relationships to biomarkers of health!

Tips to Building Friendships

Contrary to popular belief, building relationships as you age is no different than any other time in your life. According to Marla Paul, author of The Friendship Crisis: Finding, Making, and Keeping Friends When You're Not a Kid Anymore, it’s important for older adults to get over the idea that everybody else their age already has all the friends they need. "Nobody wears a sign that says 'I'm looking for a friend,' but there are a lot of people out there in the same boat."

There are a variety of ways you can put yourself out there and connect with like-minded individuals.

  • Consider checking out continuing-education classes at a local college or university. Many colleges allow older adults to audit regular classes for free, and some even have programs specifically for seniors.
  • If you're retired, apply for a part-time job a few hours a week. It will expose you to new people, get you out of the house, and a little extra money doesn’t hurt!
  • Hospitals, churches, animal shelters, and schools are always looking for volunteers. Millions of older adults 65 and over volunteer every year, and the number is growing! Volunteering is the perfect way to give back, stay active and engaged, and meet new people.

The number of ways you can meet others with interests similar to your own is limitless!

Don’t Rule Out Independent Living Communities!

Independent living communities, like CaraVita Village, provide beautiful senior apartments with none of the hassles of home maintenance. Get active, experience new things, and enjoy the best parts of retirement!

One of the most significant benefits of moving into an independent living community is the chance to become part of a close-knit group of fellow seniors. Given that these environments combine the comforts of home, with the positive aspects of community living, this is a great option for those who may be searching to build new relationships or create new friendships.SCHEDULE TOUR & LUNCH
